There is an underside to every age about which history does not often speak, because history is written from records left by the privileged.” -Howard Zinn

The Grand Rapids People’s History of the LGBTQ Community is a project that reflects the history and struggle of those fighting for justice and greater equality for those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer (LGBTQ) in West Michigan. This project covers several decades and highlights the watershed moments of the LGBTQ movement. Here is the trailer for the film.

This project is also a living project and we welcome others to share their stories and their perspective of this history, along with any archival materials they are willing to share. The struggle for justice continues!
